On April 1st, 1996, fast food giant Taco Bell took out a full-page ad in several national newspapers announcing its
decision to purchase the Liberty Bell and rename it as the "Taco Liberty Bell." Taco Bell's alleged motive for the April Fools' Day prank was to help lessen the national debt.
